Barbara Martin praised the collaborative efforts between community organizations and our law enforcement; especially their sensitivity and competence. Heartly House services include:
· A shelter mainly for abuse women & children
· ’24 hr Hotline’ ; 13,000 calls in 2006
· Assistance in the legal process; 500 women in 2006
· Counseling services
· Transitional housing
· Safe accompaniment to the hospital
She also shared some success stories. The most dangerous time for a victim may be immediately after obtaining a ‘peace order’. They nurture and help in any & every way possible. When they are stretched beyond their capacity they reach out to other organizations to get help. Nobody is ever turned away.
